April 11, 2006
Jorge Campillo, Indiana Campillo claimed his first career title at the Boilermaker Invitational by eight strokes to become the first Hoosier to win a tournament since PGA Tour member Jeff Overton claimed medalist honors at the 2005 Big Ten Championships. Additionally, he is the first true Hoosier freshman to win an event since current assistant coach Josh Brewer was victorious at the 1995 Legends Intercollegiate. Campillo capped off a remarkable tournament with a spectacular 68, matching his low round of the season, for a 4-under-par 212 (74-70-68). The Caceres, Spain native opened with a 74 before posting a 2-under 70 in round two and the lowest round in the 72-player field in the third and final round. Campillo lowered his average to 72.19 and remained on pace to shatter Overton's freshman scoring record of 74.45 set back in 2001-02.
