FINAL BIG TEN MEN'S CO-GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Harmon led Michigan State to the Bruce Fossum/Spartan Invitational title last weekend, tying for first individually with his teammate Jack Newman at 10-under-par 206. Harmon rebounded from a first-round 73 with a 6-under 66, which tied his career best. The senior posted seven birdies in the second round, bringing his total to 61 this year. The following day, Harmon closed with a 67 to earn his second consecutive tournament title and the third of his collegiate career. The 54-hole score was the lowest in his Spartan career, and the Grand Rapids, Mich., native is the only Spartan men's golfer to win more than two tournaments in one season since 1978.
Jack Newman, Michigan State
Following a team-best 67 in the first round of the Bruce Fossum/Spartan Invitational, a day that included two eagles and five birdies, Newman carded a 72 and 67 to finish tied for first individually, at 10-under-par 206 with teammate Matt Harmon. The Des Moines, Iowa, native's sub-par rounds were the first and second of his young career and helped add to his best 18-hole score, which tied for the fifth-best 18-hole score by an MSU freshman.
