Michigan State Takes Team Lead After Third Round

COLUMBUS, OHIO - Michigan State grabbed the team lead at the Big Ten Men's Golf Championships, shooting a field-low 12-over-par in Round 3 to take a six-stroke lead over second-place Purdue. Ryan Brehm and Jack Newman each shot 1-over on the day to lead the Spartans (298-295-296 - 889). Purdue (299-292-304 - 895), the leader after Round 2, shot a 20-over 304 to drop six shots back of Michigan State into second place. Minnesota (307-293-298 - 898) held its grip on the No. 3 spot, going 14-over in the third round. The Gophers were led by Bronson La'Cassie who shot at even par for the round to move into a tie for fourth place in the individual standings at 8-over. Indiana (299-303-300 - 902) jumped from seventh to a three-way tie for fourth with an 18-hole score of 16-over 300. Tied with the Hoosiers, Ohio State (295-306-301 - 902) and Wisconsin (360-295-301 - 902) each shot at 17-over 301 in Round 3 for combined totals of 902. Rounding out the field, Northwestern (298-303-307 - 908) sits in seventh, Penn State (301-306-303 - 910) is in eighth and Illinois is ninth (302-305-307 - 914) while Michigan (298-312-307 - 917) and Iowa (315-312-312 - 939) remain in 10th and 11th, respectively. Purdue's Pariya Junhasavasdikul remains the individual leader through three rounds at 1-over 214 as he shot a 2-over 73 on the day. Ryan Brehm of Michigan State moved from fourth to second with a 1-over 72 in Round 3, putting his three-round total to 4-over 217. The host Buckeyes got another solid performance from David Vallina, who finished Round 3 with a 4-over 75 for a combined 6-over 219, placing him in third. The round's top individual performance came from Ohio State's Colin Biles, who led the field with a 1-under 70 to move to 10-over for the event. Biles started the day in a tie for 30th, but jumped into a tie for seventh with the help of an eagle on the 16th hole.
