ROSEMONT, Ill. - Six Big Ten teams and one individual were selected to compete in the 2014 NCAA Men's Golf Regionals, it was announced Monday morning. The regional field is divided among six sites and will be held May 15-17. Five teams and one individual not on a qualifying team will advance from each regional to the national event, which will be held May 23-28 at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan.
Sixth-seeded Iowa and 11th-seeded Ohio State will compete at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo., while 10th-seeded Northwestern will head to Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas. Second-seeded Illinois and eighth-seeded Purdue will travel to Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill., and will be joined by Michigan's Chris O'Neill as an individual competitor. Minnesota earned the Big Ten's automatic bid after winning the Big Ten Championship on Sunday and is the 11th-seed at Lonnie Poole Golf Club in Raleigh, N.C.
The Fighting Illini finished second at last season's NCAA Championships, marking the highest finish in program history. Fifteen Big Ten golfers have won the individual national championship, including two in the last four years.
