Illinois and Iowa Advance to NCAA Men's Golf Championships

Illinois and Iowa advanced to the NCAA Men's Golf Championships today based on their finish at their respective regional sites on Saturday. Illinois tied for third in the Norman Regional, while Iowa finished fifth in the Athens Regional to earn spots in the championships field.
The Illini posted a 7-over 871 during regional play, led by Thomas Pieters' 6-under 210 over three rounds. The Hawkeyes turned in their best round of the tournament on Saturday, shooting a 1-over 285, to grab the final spot in the Athens Regional. The Hawkeyes' Ian Vandersee fired a 5-under 66 on Saturday, helping to secure Iowa's spot in the championships.
The 2012 NCAA Men's Golf Championships will take place on May 29-June 3 at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
