ROSEMONT, Ill. – Illinois and Purdue will represent the Big Ten at the 2014 NCAA Men’s Golf Championships, which will run from Friday to next Wednesday (May 23-28) at the Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan. The Fighting Illini won the Sugar Grove Regional last weekend, while Purdue finished third. Illinois’ Brian Campbell was the individual champion of the regional after carding a three-round score of 5-under par 211 (69-70-72).
After securing its second straight regional title with a three-round score of 880 (293-292-295), Illinois advances to the NCAA Championships for the seventh straight year and 22nd time in program history. The Fighting Illini finished second at last season’s NCAA Championships. The Boilermakers return to the national event for the 27th time in school history and first time since 2005 after recording a three-round score of 894 (309-288-297).
The NCAA Men’s Golf Championships feature 54 holes from Friday through Sunday. Following the 54-hole competition, the top 40 players will advance for one additional day of stroke play next Monday to determine a 72-hole stroke play individual champion. The top eight teams after 54 holes of play will advance to match play competition, which will be held next Tuesday and Wednesday.
Live results from the event can be found at NCAA.com and bigten.org. The Golf Channel will carry live coverage from next Monday through Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. ET. Monday’s coverage will feature the championship round of individual stroke play. Tuesday and Wednesday’s broadcast will feature the semifinals and finals of team match play.
