ILLINOIS' SEASON COMES TO AN END IN MATCH PLAY SEMIFINALS

The third-seeded Illini concluded the 2017 season on Tuesday afternoon, dropping a match play semifinal against No. 2 Oklahoma, 3-1-1. 2017 Big Ten Champion and Player of the Year Dylan Meyer notched the lone victory for Illinois (1-up), while Nick Hardy finished his match all-square to earn a half-point for the team. This is the third consecutive season in which the Illini finished the season tied for third at the NCAA Championships.

ILLINOIS ADVANCES TO MATCH PLAY SEMIFINALS

Third-seeded Illinois eliminated sixth-seeded USC, 3-1-1, in the quarterfinals of match play at the NCAA Championships on Tuesday. The Illini will take on second-seeded Oklahoma in the semifinals beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET. The Sooners defeated seventh-seeded Baylor, 3-2-0. 

Illinois' Edoardo Lipparelli, Giovanni Tadiotto and Nick Hardy all picked up wins against the Trojans, including a 1-up win on the 18th hole by Hardy that served as the clinching individual match.

DAY FOUR RECAP: ILLINI EARN NO. 3 SEED IN MATCH PLAY

The Illinois men's golf team earned the No. 3 match play seed at the 2017 NCAA Championships, and will face No. 6 USC in Tuesday's match play quarterfinals. This is the fifth consecutive year that the Illini have earned a spot in the match play portion of the event. The Illini faced a tough test today at Rich Harvest Farms, finishing the round with a total of 304 strokes (+16) and a 72-hole total of 1154 strokes (+2). Nick Hardy carded the low round of the day for the Illini with a 75 (+3).

Illinois will start the match play quarterfinals at 8 a.m. ET tomorrow morning, as they face a USC team that entered the 2017 Championships as the top overall seed. The winner of this quarterfinal will square off against the winner of No. 2 Oklahoma vs. No. 7 Baylor on Tuesday afternoon.

In the individual portion of the event, Illinois' Dylan Meyer was the conference's top finisher, earning a tie for sixth place with a four-round total of 284 (-4). Teammate Edoardo Lipparelli also finished under par for the stroke play event, tallying a 287 (-1) to finish in a tie for 16th on the leaderboard.

Day Three Recap:

The field has been trimmed to 15 teams through 54 holes at the 2017 NCAA Men's Golf Championships at Rich Harvest Farms. Illinois advanced to the final day of stroke play and currently sit in fifth place on the leaderboard thanks to three golfers - Edoardo Lipparelli, Dylan Meyer and Giovanni Tadiotto - who carded rounds under par. The Illini (-14) will need to finish in the top eight following tomorrow's final round of stroke play in order to advance to the match play portion of the event on Tuesday. The individual champion will also be crowned at the conclusion of Monday's round, and Illinois' Meyer is currently tied for third with a score of nine-under par.

Penn State made a push on its final day of competition, climbing four spots on the leaderboard to finish 24th. Ryan Davis (-1) led the charge for the Nittany Lions. Purdue ended its season with a 28th place finish in the event, and were led by Timmy Hildebrand on the course in round three.

Monday's fourth round will be televised live on the Golf Channel from 4-8 p.m. ET.


Day Two Recap:

The second round is in the books at the 2017 NCAA Championships, and Illinois currently leads the Big Ten contingent at Rich Harvest Farms. The Illini finished the day in sole possession of third on the leaderboard with a two round total of 565 (-11). Illinois was led by Big Ten Player of the Year Dylan Meyer, who carded a five-under par on the day. Purdue and Penn State concluded the second round in 27th and 28th place, respectively.


Day One Recap:

After a day that included stoppages due to weather, 15 teams remain on the course after play was suspended due to darkness. Illinois currently sits in a tie for fifth place at three-under par for the round, led by a four-under through 14 holes from freshman Michael Feagles. Purdue finished its day tied for 26th place at 10-over par, while Penn State concluded the round in 29th at 13-over par. 

Play will resume at 6:30 a.m. CT tomorrow morning from Rich Harvest Farms, and second round action will begin at 7:15 a.m. CT.
