Big Ten Men's Golf NCAA Championships Preview

Illinois, Penn State and Indiana along with Dan Woltman of Wisconsin, will represent the Big Ten Conference this week at the 2008 NCAA Men's Golf Championships. The event will be held May 28-May 31, on the Kampen Course of the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex (par-72, 7,431) in West Lafayette, Ind. The 72-hole event will be hosted by Purdue University. Illinois enters the NCAA Championships after a third-place showing in the Central Regional. The Fighting Illini team of Zach Barlow, Larry Blatt, Chris DeForest, Matt Hoffman and Scott Langley fired off a three-round score of (+39) 891. Blatt led the charge for Illinois finishing 11th with a (+8) 221 while Hoffman was one storke behind in a five-way tie for 12th. The Orange and Blue are making thier fifteenth NCAA appearance in school history and first since 2003. Penn State placed tied-for-eighth in the Central Regional, shooting a (+46) 898. The Nittany Lions are led by All-Big Ten second team honoree Robert Rohanna. The senior captain led all Big Ten student-athletes in regional play with his (+2) 215 performance which tied him for runner-up accolades. Big Ten Player of the Year Jorge Campillo pilots the No. 24-ranked Indiana sqaud as they placed tenth overall in the Central Regional, posting a (+49) 901. Individually, Campillo finished with a (+4) 217, tying him for fifth. Indiana will be making its 18th overall appearance at the NCAA Championships. Woltman is one of six golfers at the championships competing soley for the individual title. The junior Badger is making his second-consecutive appearance as an individual at the championships after he shot a (+2) 218 at the West Regional competition.
