Penn State Men Kick Off Conference Gymnastics Season Saturday

The Penn State Nittany Lions will open the Big Ten men’s gymnastics season on Saturday, with the conference’s remaining squads beginning action next weekend.

The Nittany Lions host Army on Saturday, one week before the conference’s remaining five gymnastics squads begin competition. The following weekend, Penn State will travel to West Point, N.Y., for the West Point Open Jan. 15-16. On Jan. 16, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio State will open their 2010 campaigns in Chicago for the Windy City Invitational.

The Big Ten Championships, hosted by Ohio State, will be held April 2-3, and the NCAA Championships in West Point, N.Y., will begin April 15.

All six conference teams earned spots in the GymInfo Preseason Coaches Poll, led by No. 4 Michigan. The Wolverines were also the preseason pick by the conference coaches to win the Big Ten Championship. Illinois, Penn State, Ohio State and Minnesota immediately followed Michigan at Nos. 5, 6, 7 and 8, respectively, while Iowa checked in at No. 10 in the preseason votes.
