ROSEMONT, Ill. – The 2016 Big Ten men’s gymnastics season will begin this weekend, with two conference teams competing in their first meets. Illinois, which is ranked No. 6 in the College Gymnastics Association Preseason Coaches’ Poll, will host Illinois-Chicago on Friday, while No. 4 Penn State will welcome No. 12 Army to University Park, Pa., on Friday.
The five remaining Big Ten teams will open their season the following weekend. No. 10 Nebraska will compete in the Rocky Mountain Open in Colorado Springs, Colo. on Jan. 16 while ninth-ranked Iowa, No. 5 Michigan, No. 8 Minnesota and No. 2 Ohio State will begin their seasons at the Windy City Invitational in Chicago on Sunday, Jan. 17. The first Big Ten dual meets of the season are set for Jan. 23, with Illinois traveling to Iowa and Minnesota hosting Penn State.
Last season, Penn State captured its third Big Ten title. The 2016 Big Ten Championships will be hosted by Ohio State, from April 1-2.
