ROSEMONT, Ill. - The 2014 Big Ten men's gymnastics season will begin this weekend, with two teams competing in their first meets on Saturday. Nebraska, which is ranked No. 10 in the GymInfo Preseason Coaches' Poll, will compete in the Rocky Mountain Open, while No. 5 Penn State will welcome No. 15 Army to University Park, Pa.
On Sunday, No. 5 Illinois will open its season at Illinois-Chicago, while No. 1 Michigan, No. 4 Ohio State, No. 8 Iowa and No. 9 Minnesota will begin their seasons at the Windy City Invitational in Chicago on Saturday, Jan. 18.
The Nittany Lions' season opener will be held at Rec Hall, while the Cornhuskers' meet versus No. 2 Oklahoma, No. 11 Air Force and Arizona State will take place in Colorado Springs, Colo. The first Big Ten dual meet of the season is set for Jan. 26, with the Buckeyes taking on the Fighting Illini.
Reigning NCAA and Big Ten Champion Michigan was named the unanimous Big Ten favorite, while Illinois and Penn State both enter the season tied for fifth in the GymInfo top 15 preseason poll. The 2014 Big Ten Championships will be held in Lincoln, Neb., from March 28-29.
