Big Ten Announces Men's Gymnastics Weekly Honors

Gymnast of the Week
Illinois' Daniel Ribeiro collects his second career Big Ten Gymnast of the Week award after earning the gold medal on the pommel horse at the U.S. Winter Cup Challenge over the weekend. Ribeiro posted a 16.000 in the first session to advance to finals, where he scored a 15.400 to clinch the gold. The senior also finished eighth in the floor exercise, turning in a two-day total of 29.450, finished 16th on the parallel bars (27.750) and 32nd on the vault (27.600). Ribeiro becomes the third Illini to earn conference honors this season.

Freshman of the Week
Michigan's Sam Mikulak placed second on the vault at the U.S. Winter Cup Challenge over the weekend en route to Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors. The newcomer totaled a 32.200 in the event over two sessions, posting a 16.150 in the first session before turning in a 16.050 in the finals. Mikulak also tied for 14th place in the floor exercise, earning a combined score of 28.650.
