Ruggeri contended with the best gymnasts in the country at the 2008 Winter Cup Challenge. The freshman finished in the top-15 in four events, including a fourth-place outing on the floor with a score of 29.900. Ruggeri was the highest finisher of any current collegiate gymnast that has not already been chosen for the Senior National Team, while he was the top finisher from the Big Ten in the all-around taking eighth place. With his performance, Ruggeri is now in contention for the three spots open to Winter Cup challengers on the U.S. Senior National Team. The team will be announced later this week. This is Ruggeri's first weekly honor.
