Illinois Gymnasts Sweep Weekly Conference Honors

Ribeiro wins the first Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honor of his career after winning two events in Illinois’ victory over Penn State on Saturday night. The junior posted a winning score of 15.800 on the pommel horse, giving him his fourth title in the event this season. Later, Ribeiro appeared in the first vault competition of his career and was awarded the second-highest score in school history with a 16.150, winning the event. He also competed in the floor exercise, where he scored a 14.750 as No. 1 Illinois went on to a 354.600-345.950 win at No. 5 Penn State.

Freshman of the Week
Yoshi Mori, Illinois
Anaheim, Calif./Irvine

Mori wins his third Big Ten Freshman of the Week award as his two event scores helped the top-ranked Illini to a 354.600-345.950 win against No. 5 Penn State over the weekend. The freshman finished third in the pommel horse with a score of 13.800 and was a part of a 1-2-3 Illinois finish in the event. His effort on the vault, a score of 12.400, helped the Illini to their highest point total of the season.
