Illinois Sweeps Final Men's Gymnastics Honors of Season

Gymnast of the Week Illinois' Austin Phillips picks up his first Big Ten Gymnast of the Week award after leading the No. 3 Illini to a win over No. 14 Illinois-Chicago on Saturday. Phillips won the high bar title with a score of 15.100 and tied for the still rings title after posting a mark of 14.700. The event titles were the first for Phillips this season, while his score on the high bar marked a career best. The sophomore also finished fourth on the parallel bars, tying a career high in the event with a 14.700, and finished sixth in the floor exercise (14.000). Last Illinois Gymnast of the Week: Tyler Mizoguchi (March 21, 2011) Freshman of the Week Illinois' Alex Varga reels in Big Ten Freshman of the Week laurels after taking the vault title and adding a second-place finish in the floor exercise against No. 14 Illinois-Chicago. Varga earned his first event title with a career-high score of 16.000 on the vault. He added a mark of 14.800 in the floor exercise, good for a tie for second place.
