Penn State Senior Luis Vargas Wins NCAA All-Around Title

West Point, NY-- Senior Luis Vargas (Rio Pedros, P.R.) did what he came to do at the 2005 NCAA Championships, successfully defending his all-around championship with a 57.175 despite a torn ligament in his thumb. The mark is a new NCAA record under the current scoring system. He is the first NCAA back-to-back all-around champion since Jamie Natalie from Ohio State 2000-01. It is Penn State's first back-to-back all-around champion since Steve Cohen in 1966 and 67.

West Point, NY-- The Big Ten supplied four of the six teams that advanced to the NCAA Men's Gymnastics Team Championship finals, but it was the Oklahoma Sooners that took home the team title. The Ohio State Buckeyes finished the team competition second, just .225 off the Sooners victorious total. The Illinois Fighting Illini placed third and the Penn State Nittany Lions came in fourth. The Michigan Wolverines rounded out the team competition finalists in sixth place. All four Big Ten teams will compete in Saturday night's individual event championships.
