Six Big Ten Schools Ranked in GymInfo Men's Preseason Coaches Poll

Six Big Ten men's gymnastics squads are ranked in the GymInfo Men's Preseason Coaches poll released on Sunday. Illinois, which won the Big Ten title and finished third at the NCAA Championships last season, received the highest ranking among the Conference schools with a No. 2 showing. Reigning national champion Penn State claimed a No. 3 ranking, while Ohio State garnered a No. 4 rating. No. 7 Michigan, No. 8 Iowa and No. 9 Minnesota rounded out the top 10.

Last season, Big Ten schools notched impressive performances at the 2004 NCAA Championships with Penn State becoming the first Conference school to win the national title since Ohio State in 2001. Illinois followed in third place, while Ohio State (3rd) and Michigan (4th) rounded out the top five. The Nittany Lions' Luis Vargas won the all-around title, while Illinois' Justin Spring took home the high bar title and teammate Ben Rogers earned first-place honors on the pommel horse.

All six Big Ten teams will open the 2005 season on Saturday, January 8 at the Windy City Invitational in Chicago, Ill.
