Ohio State Men’s Gymnastics Tabbed Big Ten Preseason Favorite

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Ohio State men’s gymnastics team earned top billing in the Big Ten Preseason Coaches’ Poll, the conference office announced on Thursday. The Buckeyes, who have won 12 Big Ten Championships, were followed by second place and defending Big Ten Champion Penn State, the defending Big Ten Champion, No. 3 Illinois, No. 4 Michigan and No. 5 Minnesota. Iowa and Nebraska were ranked sixth and seventh in the preseason poll, respectively.


The Big Ten also announced the 2016 Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch list, with three All-Big Ten honorees returning for the 2016 campaign. Illinois’ Bobby Baker and Penn State’s Trevor Howard were first-team All-Big Ten selections last season, while Minnesota’s Yaroslav Pochinka was named to the All-Big Ten second team.


Illinois’ Chandler Eggleston, Iowa’s Matthew Loochtan and Andrew Botto, Michigan’s Dmitri Belanovski and Emyre Cole, Minnesota’s Paul Montague Jr., Nebraska’s Ethan Lottman and Sam Chamberlain, Ohio State’s Sean Melton and Jake Martin and Penn State’s Dominic DiFulvio were also named to the Gymnasts to Watch list.


Last season, the Nittany Lions finished third at the NCAA Championships while the Wolverines were fourth. The 2016 Big Ten men’s gymnastics season gets underway in January.
