Ohio State Tabbed Preseason Favorite

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Ohio State men’s gymnastics team earned top billing in the Big Ten Preseason Coaches’ Poll, the conference office announced on Thursday. The Buckeyes, who have won 12 Big Ten Championships, were followed by No. 2 Michigan, No. 3 Illinois, No. 4 Penn State and No. 5 Minnesota. Iowa and Nebraska were ranked sixth and seventh in the preseason poll, respectively.

The Big Ten also announced the 2015 Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch list, with seven All-Big Ten honorees returning for the 2015 campaign. Illinois’ C.J. Maestas, Minnesota’s Ellis Mannon, Ohio State’s Jake Martin and Sean Melton and Penn State’s Trevor Howard were first-team All-Big Ten selections last season, while Illinois’ Jordan Valdez and Nebraska’s Robbie Kocks were named to the All-Big Ten second team.

Iowa’s Lance Alberhasky and Matthew Loochtan and Michigan’s Adrian de los Angeles and Michael Strathern were also named to the Gymnasts to Watch list. Rounding out the list were Minnesota’s Steve Jaciuk, Nebraska’s Grant Perdue and Penn State’s Nestor Rodriguez.

Last season, the Wolverines won their second consecutive NCAA Championship and 17th Big Ten title. The 2015 Big Ten men’s gymnastics season gets underway in January.
