Indiana, Michigan State and Penn State Garner Weekly Accolades

Men's Track Athlete of the Week Shane Knoll, Michigan State Knoll ran an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 3:57.36 to win the prestigious mile race at the Meyo Invitational this past weekend. The junior shattered MSU's school record by four seconds and became only the second Spartan in history to clock a sub-four-minute mile, indoor or outdoor. His new personal-best time serves as the fastest time in the Big Ten this season. The Warren, Mich., native takes home his first career weekly honor. Last Michigan State Indoor Athlete of the Week: Jonathon Allen (4/24/07) Men's Co-Field Athletes of the Week Jeff Coover, Indiana Coover cleared an NCAA provisional mark of 17-5.5 (5.32m.) in the pole vault this past weekend at the Meyo Invitational. His first-place jump was just five centimeters shy of his career-best and finished 10 centimeters ahead of his next closest collegiate competitor. Coover holds the Big Ten's best vault this year and the nation's fifth-best. The California native earns his second career weekly indoor honor. Last Indiana Indoor Field Athlete of the Week: Jeff Coover (2/2/09) Clarence Smith, Penn State Smith posted another NCAA qualifying triple jump this past weekend at the Sykes Sabock Challenge Cup. His leap of 52-2 (15.90 m.) took home top honors at the event and fell three inches short of his season best. The senior sits atop the Big Ten's triple jump performance list the season and ranks 10th in the country. Smith is named Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week for the second time in his career.
