Men’s Track Athlete of the Week

Jeremy Orr, Michigan State
Sr., Detroit, Mich., Henry Ford

Orr earned two NCAA provisional qualifying marks this past weekend at the Grand Valley State Big Meet.  His first-place time of 21.23 in the 200 meters sits atop the Big Ten leader board and constitutes a new personal-best.  The senior also ran the leadoff leg of the 4x400-meter relay which clocked a winning time of 3:09.59, breaking MSU’s 27-year old school record.  Orr is awarded his first career weekly accolade.

Last Michigan State Indoor Athlete of the Week: Shane Knoll (2/9/09)

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week

John Hickey, Iowa
Sr., Piermont, N.Y., / Tappan Zee

Hickey launched a new school record shot put toss this past weekend at the Iowa State Classic, measuring 63-0 (19.20m.).  His distance just missed the NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 19.30 meters but Hickey appears likely to make the trip to the national meet as his throw ranks within the top five in the country.  The senior was one of four Hawkeyes to record NCAA marks at the meet.  Hickey takes home his first career Big Ten Indoor Field Athlete of the Week award.

Last Iowa Indoor Field Athlete of the Week: Adam Hamilton (5/1/07)
