NCAA Track and Field Championships Conclude at Randal Tyson Track Center
March 9, 2013 DAY TWO The Big Ten recorded 10 top five finishes on the final day of the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, highlighted by Indiana's Derek Drouin taking home his third indoor high jump title. Drouin's mark of 2.35 meters set a new Canadian national record and is the second-best ever by a collegian. The Wisconsin men earned a spot on the podium with a third-place team finish, while the Illinois women placed 14th. Three Big Ten student-athletes placed in the top five in the weight throw, led by a runner-up finish from Michigan State's Antonio James (22.25). Purdue's Chukwuebuka Enekwechi posted a mark of 21.52 to earn third place, while Minnesota's Jon Lehman finished third with a throw of 21.35. In the 800-meter run, Penn State's Casimir Loxsom (1:47.23) and Minnesota's Harun Abda (1:48.24) finished second and fifth, respectively, while Illinois' Samantha Murphy (2:03.95) finished fourth on the women's side. The Big Ten also posted two top-five times in the mile, led by third-place Austin Mudd of Wisconsin (3:57.93). Minnesota's John Simons finished fifth with a time of 3:59.71. DAY ONE MEN'S RECAP:
WOMEN'S RECAP: Four Big Ten student-athletes placed in the top eight of their respective events at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., including Michigan taking home the title in the distance medley relay. Michigan's Erin Busbee also placed seventh in the long jump (6.33), helping the Wolverines to a third-place slot in the team standings. Michigan State's Beth Rohl placed second in the weight throw with a mark of 22.31 meters, while Wisconsin's Taylor Smith finished seventh (20.72). Additionally, several student athletes also qualified in their respective events for Day 2 of the NCAA Championships. A full list of today's finishes and qualifiers can be found below.
