The 2011 season of indoor track and field is set to begin this weekend with Ohio State at the Kent State Early Bird Meet, a two-day event, held at the Kent State University Field House. Competition for the event is set to begin at 1 p.m. CT on Friday.
The remaining Big Ten teams will open their indoor seasons on January 8. Michigan will hit the road to compete at the Eastern Michigan Invitational, held at the Bob Parks Track/Bowen Fieldhouse in Ypsilanti, Mich. while Indiana opens their season by playing host to the Indiana Open in the Gladstein Fieldhouse.
On that same day, Iowa meets Illinois for a dual at the U of I Armory Track & Floor, with field events slated to start at Noon CT and running events to begin at 1 p.m. Penn State also begins its season that day by hosting the Penn State Indoor Relays, at Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track while Purdue will compete in the Purdue Invitational. Rounding out the pack of Big Ten teams in action is Minnesota. The two-time defending Big Ten Indoor Champion will begin its quest for its fourth Big Ten title as the Gophers open competition at the Northwest Open in Minneapolis, Minn.
Michigan State and Wisconsin will begin their seasons a week later. The Spartans start their campaign on the road as they travel to Lexington, Ky., to race in the Kentucky Invitational, while the Badgers begin by hosting the two-day Badger Track Classic.
