Michigan State vs. Penn State
November 11, 2005

Michigan State Head Coach Joe Baum
"I thought it was a typical Big Ten game, very physical and very hard-fought. Both
teams, I thought, played outstanding defense. Penn State made a couple big plays and we
didn't."

Is that all that went wrong for you today or one thing in particular?
"No, I thought we created some good chances offensively and they came up big
defensively. I have no problem with their effort. I thought we played pretty good attack soccer."

You went 1-1 in the tournament. What does that do for your chances in the NCAA
tournament?
"I tell you, I think the five ties kill us. If a couple of those ties were wins, I think we
would have a chance. Those five ties kind of put us out of it, so I think this is pretty
much the end of it for the Spartans."

Penn State Head Coach Barry Gorman

Comment on the game briefly...
"I thought it was a game of two halves, because of the wind and field conditions. We
were fortunate to get that goal in the first half. The second half I thought that Michigan State played awfully well. They moved the ball and caused us all kinds of bother."

On having a bye...
"It is nice to have a day of rest, but sometimes I think the teams that play on the Thursday get the momentum going, and we were a little bit sluggish and at times we looked like the team that had played the day before, rather than Michigan State."

Who do you think you match up better against, the physical presence of Ohio State or the offensive power of Indiana?
"Well at this stage we will just take it the way if comes. I think depending on who we
play there are different preparations, different matchups. Once you get into the final, you are happy to be there. Once you know the result of the semifinal matchup, then you start making preparations."
