PARK RIDGE, Ill. - Four Big Ten men's soccer teams have earned a top-25 ranking in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Preseason Rankings. Five teams also earned recognition in College Soccer News' Preseason Top 30.
Northwestern opens the season as the highest-ranked Big Ten team in the NSCAA poll, appearing at No. 9. Defending Big Ten Champion Ohio State debuts at No. 18, while Indiana is tied at No. 20 and Michigan State appears at No. 24. Penn State also received votes in the first poll of the 2010 season.
Ohio State earns top billing from College Soccer News among Big Ten teams, checking in at No. 10. Penn State enters the poll at No. 16, followed by Northwestern at No. 18, Michigan State at No. 19 and Indiana at No. 21. Northwestern's Matt Eliason and Indiana's Will Bruin were named College Soccer News preseason All-Americans, garnering second- and third-team recognition, respectively.
The Big Ten men's soccer season kicks off on Wednesday, Sept. 1, when Michigan hosts Detroit Mercy. Indiana, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio State and Penn State begin play on Friday, Sept. 3, while Wisconsin opens its 2010 slate on Saturday, Sept. 4.
