Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

Pablo Delgado, Wisconsin

F., Jr., Madrid, Spain / San Agustin

Delgado was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player of the Middleton Sports & Fitness Invitational this past weekend. The junior forward set up the game-winning goal in Friday’s 1-0 overtime victory over No. 20 Santa Clara. The Madrid, Spain, native added a goal of his own in a 3-3 tie against Dayton on Sunday. Delgado is honored with his first Big Ten weekly accolade.

Men’s Soccer Defensive Co-Players of the Week

Mark Blades, Northwestern

D., Jr., Lakewood, Ohio / St. Ignatius

Blades piloted the Wildcats to the team title at the Lafayette Classic this past weekend and was named to the All-Tournament Team. The junior played all 180 minutes for Northwestern in a 4-1 victory over Iona and a 0-0 tie against host Lafayette. Blades and the Wildcat defense have recorded three shutouts in their first four matches this season. The Lakewood, Ohio, native takes home his first weekly laurel.

Last Northwestern Defensive Player of the Week: Drew Ratner (09/24/08)

Tim Gabel, Ohio State

D., Sr., Wildwood, Mo. / Lafayette

Gabel led a Buckeye defense that only allowed one goal this past weekend at the Penn State Classic. On Friday, Ohio State tied with Bucknell by a score of 1-1 and on Sunday, the Buckeyes shut down Tulsa winning the match, 2-0. The senior played in all 200 minutes in the two games. Gabel earns his first weekly Big Ten award.
