PARK RIDGE, Ill. – Indiana and Penn State have earned Big Ten men’s soccer weekly honors, the conference announced on Monday. Indiana’s Alec Purdie takes home Offensive Player of the Week, while Penn State’s Andrew Wolverton earns recognition on the defensive end.
Offensive Player of the Week
Alec Purdie, Indiana
MF – Sr. – Elkhart, Ind. – Elkhart Central
- Led his team to wins over Bucknell (3-2) and Denver (2-1)
- Tallied seven points on three goals and an assist over the weekend
- Had his first multiple-goal game of the season against Bucknell
- Named the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament Offensive MVP
- Last Indiana Offensive Player of the Week: Eriq Zavaleta (Sept. 5, 2011)
Defensive Player of the Week
Andrew Wolverton, Penn State
GK – Fr. – Snellville, Ga. – St. Pius X Catholic
- Recorded his fourth shutout of the season with a 3-0 win over Saint Peter’s
- Had three saves against Saint Peter’s, including two in the second half
- Has a 0.60 goals against average through the first five games of the season
