The conference office announced on Monday the fifth weekly men’s soccer award winners for the 2009 season. Indiana’s Andy Adlard and Penn State’s Matheus Braga earned a share of the Offensive Player of the Week award and Northwestern’s Misha Rosenthal was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week for games played through Sept. 28-Oct. 4.

Co-Offensive Player of the Week:
Andy Adlard, Indiana
F – Jr. - Hartland, Wis. - Brookfield East

Junior Andy Adlard was tabbed co-Offensive Player of the Week after recording his first career multiple-goal game to give Indiana its first win over a ranked opponent this season in a 3-0 win over No. 13 Kentucky on Tuesday. The Hartland, Wis., native netted two goals, including the game-winner off a header in the 30th minute. He put the game out of reach with his second score of the match and third of the season with a shot to the lower-right corner to give the Hoosiers a 2-0 advantage. Then on Friday at No. 11 UC Santa Barbara, Adlard led the Hoosiers with a three shots, two of which were on frame. This is the first weekly laurel for Adlard, who is currently second on the team in goals (3), points (8) and shots (26).

Co-Offensive Player of the Week:
Matheus Braga, Penn State
M - Jr. - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - Colegio Militar de Fortaleza

Matheus Braga led Penn State to a pair of shutout victories over Penn and Michigan State, powering the Nittany Lions’ offensive attack with four shots and three points last week. The Rio de Janeiro, Brazil native notched an assist in PSU’s 5-0 rout of Penn and netted the game-winning goal in the Nittany Lions’ 1-0 victory over the Spartans. Versus Penn, the junior midfielder helped trigger the Blue and White’s scoring run with an assist on Jason Yeisley’s second goal of the game. Then in conference action on Sunday, Braga converted on a free kick opportunity, firing a shot from 25 yards to give his squad the edge over Michigan State. Braga is currently tied for the team lead in assists with four and is second in goals (5) and points (14).

After missing the last two matches due to injury, senior goalkeeper Misha Rosenthal returned to the Northwestern lineup to post his school-record 25th career shutout in the Wildcat’s 1-0 win at 15th-ranked Ohio State. The Miami, Fla., native notched seven saves in the contest, including four in the second half, to preserve the narrow lead and allow Northwestern its fourth-consecutive Big Ten opening victory, all against the Buckeyes. This is the fifth career weekly honor for Rosenthal, and his first of 2009.
