Indiana and Penn State Reel in Men's Soccer Weekly Awards
Oct. 11, 2010 Big Ten Men's Soccer Weekly Release PARK RIDGE, Ill. - The Big Ten Conference has announced its men's soccer weekly award winners, with Indiana's Will Bruin and Penn State's Andy Parr garnering recognition. Bruin takes home Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Parr earns Defensive Player of the Week accolades. Offensive Player of the Week Indiana's Will Bruin scored three goals last week, upping his season total to 10, en route to his second Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season. Bruin scored the Hoosiers' only goal against Notre Dame on Wednesday, tallying in the 24th minute to tie the score at one before Indiana fell in a 2-1 decision. The junior scored two goals less than two minutes apart to help the upset-minded Hoosiers take down No. 11 Creighton, 3-2, on the road on Saturday. Bruin's first marker came off a header in the 29th minute with his second following in the 31st. He is the first Indiana player to reach double-digit goals in a season since 2005. Last Indiana Offensive Player of the Week: Will Bruin (Sept. 27, 2010) Defensive Player of the Week Andy Parr led the Penn State defensive corps in back-to-back solid showings last week, including a shutout victory over Villanova on Wednesday and a 2-1 win over No. 18 Michigan State on Sunday, to earn Defensive Player of the Week laurels. Parr's defensive unit allowed eight total shots and just three on goal against the Wildcats, helping the Nittany Lions secure the shutout. Penn State surrendered a goal in the first half against Michigan State before allowing just two shots on goal for the remainder of the contest, holding the Spartans to six total shots for the game.
