Oct. 25, 2010
PARK RIDGE, Ill. - Indiana's Luis Soffner and Wisconsin's Chris Prince have earned Big Ten men's soccer weekly honors as announced on Monday. Prince is honored as the Big Ten's top offensive player for the week, while Soffner earns the nod on the defensive end.
Offensive Player of the Week
Chris Prince recorded the first multi-goal games of his career, scoring twice against intrastate foe Green Bay on Wednesday before tallying three more against Northwestern on Saturday to earn his first weekly award. Prince's first goal against Green Bay tied the game at one, while his second gave Wisconsin the late 3-2 lead before the Badgers fell in overtime. He followed with goals in the 16th, 84th and 85th minutes against Northwestern. Prince's hat trick marks the first at Wisconsin since 2006. The five-goal effort on the weekend gives the freshman seven this season, which leads the Badgers.
Last Wisconsin Offensive Player of the Week: Scott Lorenz (Oct. 12, 2009)
Defensive Player of the Week
Indiana goalkeeper Luis Soffner receives the first weekly honor of his career after leading the Hoosiers to a 1-0-1 record last week, including a shutout of No. 16 Michigan State on Sunday. Soffner made two saves in Indiana's draw with Kentucky on Wednesday, allowing one goal in the tie. The sophomore made another save in the Hoosiers' 3-0 blanking of Michigan State, handing the Spartans their first home loss of the season. The clean sheet marks Soffner's third of the campaign.
