Michigan Earns Outright Big Ten Men's Soccer Title

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- The Michigan men's soccer team clinched the outright Big Ten Conference men's soccer title on Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 victory in double overtime against Maryland in College Park. It's the Wolverines' first Big Ten championship and earns them the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament. The tournament champion will earn the Big Ten's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.

Northwestern (6-11-0, 1-7-0 Big Ten) earned the No. 8 seed in the tournament, and will take on No. 9 Rutgers (4-12-1, 0-8-0) in the lone first-round game on Saturday, Nov. 4 in Ann Arbor, Michigan at Noon ET. The Wildcats defeated the Scarlet Knights 3-0 on Oct. 15 in Evanston, Ill. Michigan (11-4-2, 6-1-1) will host the Northwestern-Rutgers winner in the quarterfinals on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m.

Indiana (13-0-4, 5-0-3) claimed the No. 2 seed and will host No. 7 Penn State (5-9-2, 2-6-0) in Sunday's quarterfinals live on Big Ten Network at 4 p.m. Indiana and Penn State will be meeting for the second time this season. Indiana claimed the first meeting with a 1-0 victory in State College on Oct. 7. The Hoosiers earned the No. 2 seed by virtue of the goal differential tie-breaker with No. 3 Michigan State (11-9).

Michigan State (11-2-3, 5-0-3) earned the No. 3 seed in the Big Ten Tournament and will host No. 6 Ohio State (7-9-1, 3-5-0) on Sunday in the quarterfinals at 1 p.m. The Spartans defeated the Buckeyes 5-1, on Oct. 1.

Defending champion Maryland garnered the No. 4 seed in the Big Ten Tournament after posting a 10-4-3 overall record and 5-1-2 in Big Ten play. The Terrapins will entertain No. 5 Wisconsin (8-4-4, 4-3-1) in Sunday's quarterfinals at 1 p.m. Maryland defeated Wisconsin, 5-4, on Oct. 13 in Madison, Wisconsin.

The semifinals and championship match are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 10 and Sunday, Nov. 12 at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana. The semifinals will be broadcast live on BTN at Noon and 2:30 p.m., and the championship game will be carried live at Noon ET.
