Penn State goalkeeper Warren Gross has been named National Player of the Week by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), announced on Wednesday. The freshman becomes the fourth Big Ten men’s soccer player to earn the award in the past five weeks, tying the Big East for most accolades this season among all conferences. In just his third career start, Gross limited No. 2 Akron to just one score and tallied six saves in a 1-1 tie. The Zips had been averaging over 3 goals per game in their past 10 contests. Against No. 17 Indiana, Gross recorded his first collegiate shutout, stopping three shots on goal as the Nittany Lions defeated the Hoosiers, 1-0.
