The pairings for the 2010 Big Ten Men's Soccer Tournament have been announced, with conference champion Indiana taking the top seed. The tournament, hosted by Penn State, will feature three opening round games on Thursday, followed by two semifinal games on Friday. The championship game will take place on Sunday at Noon ET, with the winner earning the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
The Hoosiers earned their 13th Big Ten title after finishing their conference slate at 4-1-1, clinching the tournament's top seed and a bye into the semifinals. Indiana will await the winner of the Penn State-Northwestern quarterfinal match, which will be played at 3 p.m. ET on Thursday. The Nittany Lions and Wildcats tied for fourth place in the Big Ten standings with Penn State owning the tiebreaker, giving it the No. 4 seed and Northwestern the No. 5 seed.
While Ohio State and Michigan tied for second in the Big Ten standings at 4-2-0, a 1-0 Buckeye win over the Wolverines on Sept. 25 gives Ohio State the No. 2 seed. The Buckeyes will take on No. 7 Wisconsin at 12:30 p.m. ET in the quarterfinals. In the opening match of the tournament, No. 3 Michigan will square off with intrastate rival and No. 6 seed Michigan State at 10 a.m. ET.
Friday's semifinals will pit the Michigan-Michigan State winner against the Ohio State-Wisconsin winner at 1 p.m. ET, with Indiana taking on the winner of Penn State-Northwestern at 3:30 p.m. ET. The semifinal and championship games will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.
