PARK RIDGE, Ill. - The 2008 Big Ten Men’s Soccer Championship bracket is set and was released today by the conference office. Conference teams closed out their Big Ten and regular season schedule this weekend. This year's event, hosted by the University of Wisconsin, kicks off on Thursday, Nov. 13 and runs through Sunday, Nov. 16.
Michigan State clinched the regular season title and the No. 1 seed heading into the Big Ten Championship with a 1-0 victory against Northwestern on Nov 2. As the top seed, the Spartans receives a first-round bye and will play the first quarterfinal winner (No. 4 Northwestern vs. No. 5 Penn State) at 11:00 a.m. CT on Friday, Nov. 14.
Michigan closed out its Big Ten schedule with a 2-0 win against Penn State in the final game of the regular season. The Wolverines garner the No. 2 seed in the Championship and will face No. 7 seed Wisconsin on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 3:30 p.m. CT.
No. 3 Indiana ended the season with a 3-3-0 Big Ten grade and will match up against sixth-seeded Ohio State, with a conference mark of 2-4-0, at 1 p.m. CT on Thursday, Nov. 13. The Hoosiers defeated Northwestern, 2-0, in their final regular season contest, breaking the head-to-head tie with the Wildcats.
Northwestern finished the conference regular season with a 3-3-0 mark to earn the No. 4 seed. The Wildcats will play in the first quarterfinal game on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 10:30 a.m. CT against a fifth-seeded Penn State team that posted a 2-4-0 record in conference play.
The Big Ten Network will broadcast action from the 2008 Big Ten Men’s Soccer Championship for the second consecutive season. Both semifinal matches on Friday, Nov. 14 will be shown live on the Big Ten Network at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. CT, respectively. The title game on Sunday, Nov. 16 will also be aired live at noon CT.
