Semifinal Field Set

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The 2014 Big Ten Men’s Soccer Tournament semifinal field has been set following the result of Sunday’s quarterfinal matches. As the highest remaining seed, No. 1 Maryland will serve as the host for next weekend’s semifinals and championship game. The Terrapins will entertain No. 5 Michigan State, while No. 2 Ohio State will take on sixth-seeded Indiana in the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 14.

Maryland posted a 2-0 win over No. 8 Rutgers on Sunday. Mael Corboz and George Campbell both notched goals, with Corboz’ converted penalty kick in the in the 32nd minute serving as the game-winning goal.

Michigan State defeated No. 4 Penn State, 1-0, in Sunday’s quarterfinals, behind Tim Kreutz’ game-winning goal in the 54th minute. In the only meeting between the Terrapins and Spartans during the Big Ten season, Michigan State recorded a 1-0 win on Sept. 19 in College Park, Md.

Ohio State recorded a 1-0 win over No. 7 Michigan on Sunday afternoon. The Buckeyes’ Danny Jensen scored on a header in the 19th minute and Ohio State held the Wolverines scoreless for the remaining 70 minutes to secure the victory.

With the game not decided after 110 minutes and a 1-1 score, it came down to penalty kicks where Indiana prevailed over third-seeded Northwestern by a 5-4 score on Sunday. In the lone meeting between the Hoosiers and Buckeyes on Oct. 12, Indiana posted a 2-1 win in Columbus, Ohio.

The semifinals will air live on BTN and BTN2Go at 1 p.m. with Indiana versus Ohio State and 3:40 p.m. ET with Maryland versus Michigan State, respectively, on Friday, Nov. 14. The championship game will be carried live at 12:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, Nov. 16.
