Indiana Falls to North Carolina, 1-0
No. 16 Indiana dropped a 1-0 contest to No. 1 North Carolina this afternoon in the third round of the NCAA Championship. Scoreless through regulation, the Tar Heels' Billy Schuler scored the game-winning goal in the 97th minute. North Carolina will play St. Mary's in the quarterfinal round on Saturday, Dec. 3.
The Hoosiers finish their 2011 season with an 13-4-5 record, which included their 25th consecutive NCAA Championship appearance.
Indiana to face North Carolina on Sunday
No. 16 Indiana will travel to Chapel Hill to face No. 1 North Carolina in the third round of the NCAA Championship today at 1 p.m ET. The winner will face Brown-St. Mary's in the quarterfinals.
Indiana Defeats Old Dominion, 3-0
Indiana earned a bid to the Sweet 16 with a 3-0 shutout victory against Old Dominion this afternoon. Nikita Kotlov scored a goal in the 17th and 71st minutes to pace the 16th-seeded Hoosiers. Tim Wylie added the final tally in the 80th minute. The Hoosiers will face the winner of North Carolina-Coastal Carolina on Nov. 27.
No. 16 Indiana to face Old Dominion on Sunday
No. 16 Indiana will host Old Dominion in the second round of the NCAA Championship today at 2 p.m. ET. After earning a first round bye, the Hoosiers welcome the Monarchs to Bloomington in second-round action. Old Dominion defeated Liberty on Thursday to earn a spot in the field of 32.
Northwestern Eliminated in NCAA Championship opener
Northwestern dropped a 3-1 contest to Akron on Thursday in the opening round of the NCAA Championship. The Zips scored the first two goals of the match before the Wildcats' Peter O'Neill cut the lead in half in the 63rd minute. Akron's Darren Mattocks tacked on another goal in the 76th. Akron will take on SMU in second-round action on Sunday.
The Wildcats finish their 2011 campaign with an 11-5-5 record, which included a Big Ten Championship and Big Ten Tournament accolades.
Indiana and Northwestern to Compete in NCAA Championship
Indiana and Northwestern will compete in the 2011 NCAA Championship with the Wildcats traveling to Akron, Ohio, to take on the Zips at 7:30 p.m. ET today. Indiana will face the winner of Liberty-Old Dominion on Sunday in Bloomington, Ind., with the time still to be decided.
