Minnesota and Penn State Earn Weekly Swimming and Diving Honors

Park Ridge, Ill. - The conference office announced on Tuesday the weekly men's swimming and diving honors. Minnesota's Michael Richards was tabbed Swimmer of the Week, while Penn State's Alex Marchinski earned Diver of the Week honors. Men's Swimmer of the Week Senior Michael Richards won two individual events and was part of the winning 200-meter medley relay team to help Minnesota to a 160-98 victory over Hawaii last weekend. The Falcon Heights, Minn., native claimed top honors in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 20.40. He followed that performance with a 45.30 effort in the 100-yard freestyle before winning the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:31.20. This is the first weekly swimming award in Richards' career. Last Minnesota Men's Swimmer of the Week: Ivan Gutesa (Nov. 2, 2010) Men's Diver of the Week Penn State's Alex Marchinski had two top-five finishes against Wyoming at the Indiana Natatorium last weekend. The Shillington, Pa., native set a career-high as he scored 290.50 points from the three-meter to earn a third-place finish. The sophomore then tallied a score of 263.95 on the one-meter board for a fourth-place showing.
