The conference office announced on Tuesday the 13th weekly men’s swimming and diving honors for meets from Jan. 11 -17. Michigan’s Tyler Clary becomes the third Wolverine to earn Swimmer of the Week honors in as many weeks and Ohio State’s Ryan Jefferson brings home the first weekly diving award of the season for the Scarlet and Gray.
Men’s Swimmer of the Week:
Tyler Clary, Michigan
Jr. - Riverside, Calif. - Riverside Poly
Tyler Clary led the seventh-ranked Wolverines to their second consecutive title at the prestigious SMU Classic with four top-two finishes over the weekend. The Riverside, Calif., native touched first in the 400-yard IM (3:50.09) before recording two individual runner-up finishes in the 200-yard backstroke (1:44.21) and 200-yard individual medley (1:48.60). Clary also picked up a consolation final win in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 49.07 to pilot U-M to victory over a highly-touted field, including No. 6 Florida, No. 13 USC and No. 19 Purdue. On the relay front, the junior led off for the 800-yard freestyle relay team, helping the Wolverines place second (6:31.43). All but one of his times (100 back) were NCAA consideration marks. The award marks the second weekly laurel for Clary on the season and his fourth overall.
