Swimmer of the Week

DeJong went unbeaten for the Wolverines in dominating dual wins over conference opponents No. 11 Indiana (160-140) and No. 18 Ohio State (164-77) last weekend.  He claimed four individual events, swam on two winning relays, recorded one NCAA "A" consideration time and met four "B" standards. The senior captain set a new pool record in the 200-yard backstroke as he touched the wall first in 1.42.73 for an automatic qualification.  DeJong's "B" performances came in the 200 freestyle (1:38.28) against Ohio State and also in the 100 (47.67) and 200 (1:46.45)  backstroke events and 800 freestyle relay (6:34.71) versus Indiana.  The Holland, Mich., native also was a member of the first-place 200 medley relay team that won in 1:30.03 against the Buckeyes and then took second behind the Hoosiers in 1:29.54. This is the third weekly accolade of his career as he was most recently honored on Jan. 11, 2005.

Fagan earns Diver of the Week honors for the third time this season and fourth of his career after two strong performances over the weekend for the Hoosiers.  Against Michigan he swept the three-meter and platform competitions. The defending Big Ten Diver of the Week notched first-place with 348.83 points and moved into the sixth all-time best performance for IU on the platform. He went on to claim first-place on the three-meter board (348.60), which placed him sixth overall in another Hoosier record. Fagan has been honored three times this season, all occurring in January.
