Big Ten Announces First Swimming and Diving Honors of 2010-11

The conference office announced on Tuesday the first weekly men's swimming and diving award winners for the 2010-11 season. Wisconsin earned both awards with Dan Lester being tabbed Swimmer of the Week and Michael Ross garnering Diver of the Week laurels.
Men's Swimmer of the Week
All-American Dan Lester competed in three events in Wisconsin's opening meet victory over Milwaukee, capturing firsts in all of them. Highlighting the season-opener was Lester's NCAA B time of 48.33 in the 100 butterfly, as well as a first place in the 200 freestyle at 1:42.10. In relay action, the Brisbane, Australia, native was the third leg of the 200-yard medley relay that won in a time of 1:34.23.

Men's Diver of the Week
Michael Ross swept the diving events as Wisconsin opened the season by beating Milwaukee, 146-84, on Friday night. He opened on the one-meter board and set a new Wisconsin dual meet record with a score of 386.78, breaking the old mark by nearly 40 points. The Wilmette, Ill., native then competed in the three-meter board and posted a score of 380.85, less than one point off the school record. The honor marks the second career weekly accolade for Ross, who was also the last Badger diver to take home the honor in November of 2008.
