Schmitt helped his Michigan State squad to a victory over Ball State, defeating the Cardinals by a final score of 157.5-142.5. The junior recorded his first career win in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall at 57.95. Schmitt also posted his fastest time of the season in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:11.43 good for second place. The Grand Haven, Mich., native garners his first weekly Big Ten award.

Diver of the Week
David Garry, Michigan State
Jr., Warren, Mich. / De LaSalle
Garry swept through the springboard events in a home dual meet against Ball State this past Saturday, automatically qualifying for the NCAA Zone Diving Meet in March. His winning score from the three-meter board of 336.90 was a career best and finished over 64 points ahead of the second-place diver. Garry’s tally of 311.10 from the one-meter height topped teammate and second-place finisher Brian Akers by over 49 points. The Warren, Mich., native is honored with his first Diver of the Week laurel.
