2018 MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS PREVIEW
Men's Swimming and Diving Championships Release (PDF)

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The 2018 Big Ten Men's Swimming & Diving Championships hosted by the University of Minnesota will be held Wednesday, Feb. 21 through Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. ET Wednesday with the timed finals of the 200-yard medley relay and 800-yard freestyle relay. Preliminary heats will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with the finals scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. each night.

Thursday's slate features the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, 50-yard freestyle and one-meter diving competition, with the 400-yard medley relay taking place that evening.

Friday's schedule includes the 100-yard butterfly, 400-yard individual medley, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke and three-meter diving event, with the 200-yard freestyle relay finals contested during the evening.

Saturday's events include the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, 1,650-yard freestyle and platform diving, with the 400-yard freestyle relay finals taking place that evening.

Last season, Indiana compiled 1,504 points throughout the four-day event to win the 2017 Big Ten Men's Swimming & Diving Championships title. Michigan and Ohio State tied for second after collecting 1,382 points. Minnesota finished fourth with 879 points, while Wisconsin recorded 763 points to finish fifth.

The entire four-day event will be available via live stream on BTN Plus. BTN will air tape-delayed coverage of the Big Ten Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at 10:00 a.m. ET Sunday.

DAY 1 - WEDNESDAY REVIEW
WEDNESDAY RESULTS (PDF)

Indiana opened the first day of competition winning the 200-yard medley relay and the 800-yard freestyle relay title with NCAA A-cut qualifying times of 1:23.95 and 6:11.50, respectively.

After the first day of competition, Indiana leads with 128 points. Michigan and Ohio State are tied for second with 108 points. No. 4 Minnesota has 106, while Penn State, Iowa and Wisconsin are tied for fifth place with 96 points.

Competition continues tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. CT with the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, 50-yard freestyle, one-meter diving competition, and 400-yard medley relay.


DAY 2 - THURSDAY REVIEW
THURSDAY RESULTS (PDF)

Thursday's competition was highlighted by three Big Ten Championships records, including an NCAA A-cut time of 4:09.29 set by Michigan's Felix Auboeck in the 500-yard freestyle event. Indiana's Michael Hixon re-set his own Big Ten Championships record in the one-meter diving event with a final score of 493.60, a NCAA zone qualifying time. Minnesota's Bowen Becker won the 50-yard Freestyle title with a time of 18.93, after setting a new Big Ten Championships record in the prelims with a time of 18.69.

After two days of competition, Michigan leads with 538.5 points, followed by No. 2 Indiana with 529.5, No. 3 Ohio State with 407, No. 4 Purdue with 280 and No. 5 Minnesota with 278.5 points.

Competition resumes tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. CT with the 100-yard butterfly, 400-yard individual medley, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke and three-meter diving event. The 200-yard freestyle relay finals will be contested during the evening.


DAY 3 - FRIDAY REVIEW
FRIDAY RESULTS (PDF)

Friday's events featured four new Big Ten Championships records, starting with Indiana's Vini Lanza who swam an NCAA A-cut time of 44.79 to claim the 100-yard butterfly title. The Hoosiers continued their record-setting performances with Blake Pieroni's NCAA A-cut time of 1:31.14, which re-set his own 2017 Big Ten Championships record in the 200-yard freestyle event. Indiana's Ian Finnerty swam a 50.72 in the 100-yard breaststroke to also re-set his 2017 Championships record. Purdue's Steele Johnson earned the three-meter diving title with a new Championships record final score of 540.55.

After three days of competition, Indiana leads with 1,090.5 points, followed by Michigan with 1,080, No. 3 Ohio State with 870, No. 4 Purdue with 540 and No. 5 Minnesota with 480 points.

Action concludes tomorrow with the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, 1,650-yard freestyle and platform diving. Preliminary heats will begin at 11 a.m. CT, with the finals and the 400-yard freestyle relay scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

Indiana Wins 2018 Big Ten Men's Swimming & Diving Championships
Hoosiers capture their second consecutive title

MINNEAPOLIS - Indiana claimed the 2018 Big Ten Men's Swimming & Diving Championship Saturday at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota. The title marks the team's second consecutive conference crown.

Indiana collected 1,658 total points throughout the four-day event. Michigan finished second after collecting 1,617.5 points and Ohio State was third with 1,300.5 points. Purdue finished fourth with 735.5 points, while Minnesota recorded 712.5 points to finish fifth.

The Hoosiers took home titles in 14 of 21 events at the Championships. Indiana's Vini Lanza was named Swimmer of the Championships and Michael Hixon was tabbed Diver of the Championships. Michigan's Ricardo Vargas claimed Freshman of the Year honors.
