Big Ten Men's Tennis Opens Spring Slate This Week

The 2011 Big Ten men's tennis spring schedule begins this week with Indiana and Michigan taking to the court for the first time in 2011. The Hoosiers travel to Fort Myers, Fla., to compete in the Florida Gulf Coast Showdown on Jan. 3-9, while the Wolverines open their season at the Key Biscayne Individuals in Key Biscayne, Fla., on Jan. 7-9.

Illinois makes its 2011 debut on Jan. 13 at the Illini Open in Sarasota, Fla. Michigan State opens the season with duals against IUPUI and Wright State on Jan. 15, while Northwestern follows with duals against Ball State and Illinois-Chicago on Jan. 16.

Minnesota, Penn State, Purdue and Wisconsin each host duals over the following weekend, as the Golden Gophers welcome Marquette, the Boilermakers host IUPUI and Western Michigan and the Badgers take on Butler and Wisconsin-Whitewater on Jan. 22. The Nittany Lions host St. Bonaventure and Lehigh on Jan. 23.

Defending Big Ten Champion Ohio State opens play on Jan. 26, hosting duals against Butler and Xavier. Iowa begins its spring schedule on Jan. 30, as the Hawkeyes welcome Creighton to Iowa City.

Minnesota and Wisconsin square off in the first Big Ten dual of the season on Feb. 13. The Big Ten Championships, hosted by Wisconsin, are scheduled to take place on April 28-May 1.
