The 2014 Big Ten men’s tennis spring schedule begins this week with No. 56 Indiana and No. 37 Michigan State taking to the court for the first time. The Hoosiers travel to Orlando, Fla., to compete in the UCF Invitational Jan. 9-12, while the Spartans open their season with a pair of home non-conference matches on Jan. 11.
No. 22 Illinois and No. 32 Northwestern will make their 2014 debuts on Jan. 17, as the Fighting Illini compete at the Illini Open in Fort Meyers, Fla., and the Wildcats travel to Boise, Idaho, to face Boise State. The next day, No. 26 Michigan opens its season with duals against Western Michigan and Toledo, while No. 34 Minnesota and No. 60 Nebraska will each take the court on Jan. 19 with dual matches on the road. On Jan. 20, No. 69 Purdue will make its debut when it hosts a pair of dual matches.
Defending Big Ten Champion and fifth-ranked Ohio State opens the 2014 season on Jan. 22 with home dual matches against Butler and Xavier. Penn State and No. 65 Wisconsin will make their debuts that week as well, with the Nittany Lions hosting William & Mary on Jan. 24, and the Badgers visiting UCLA on Jan. 25. Iowa will take the court for the first time in 2014 on Feb. 1 with duals against Illinois State and Western Illinois.
Minnesota and Iowa square off in the first Big Ten dual match of the season on Feb. 16. The Big Ten Tournament, hosted by Michigan State, is scheduled for April 24-27.
