Men's Tennis Opens 2009 Slate This Weekend

The 2009 Big Ten men's tennis season kicks off next week with four teams in action.

Indiana opens its non-conference season at the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament in Ft. Myers, Fla., on Sunday, Jan. 4.

On Friday, Jan. 9, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio State will also begin spring play. The Fighting Illini will head to Tampa, Fla., to compete in the USF Invitational, Jan. 9-11. Michigan will also head to the sunshine state that weekend for the Key Biscayne Invitational in Key Biscayne, Fla. Meanwhile, the reigning Big Ten Champion Ohio State Buckeyes will enter their own Invitational, Friday, welcoming student athletes from Denver and Minnesota to bring in the New Year.

Michigan State, Northwestern, Penn State and Purdue will begin their respective 2009 campaigns the following weekend, Jan. 17-18, while Wisconsin prepares to host UW-Green Bay on Jan. 24 in Madison. Iowa and Minnesota will also kick off its spring seasons as each school looks to go head-to-head against Northern Iowa and Marquette, respectively, in the final weekend of January.
