Jan. 20, 2009
Player of the Week: Illini senior Marc Spicijaric earns his first career weekly award after recording a perfect 4-0 slate while helping No. 15 Illinois start the 2009 campaign at 3-0, including one upset over 14th-ranked Pepperdine last weekend. Opening the weekend at No. 1 singles, Spicijaric knocked off Ball State’s top player Eduardo Pavia, 6-2, 6-2. The next day, the Wesley Chapel, Fla., native wasted little time in upsetting No. 57-ranked Mahmoud Kamel of Pepperdine, 6-2, 6-2.
