Illinois' Dennis Nevolo picked up two singles wins and a doubles win to lead the 16th-ranked Illini to wins over No. 39 Denver and No. 36 Notre Dame at ITA Kickoff Weekend. Nevolo, ranked 11th in the country, defeated 25th-ranked Enej Bonin of Denver, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 singles before he and Johnny Hamui fell to Andrew Landwelen and Jens Vorke, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles in the Illini's 6-1 win over the Pioneers on Friday. The junior earned a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles against 104th-ranked Casey Watt of Notre Dame and added an 8-1 win with Hamui at No. 1 doubles against 47th-ranked Tyler Davis and Stephen Havens en route to a 4-1 Illinois win over the Fighting Irish on Saturday. With the wins, the Illini advanced to the ITA Team Indoor Championships on Feb 18-21 and moved to 2-1 overall this season.
