Kevin Anderson, Illinois

Anderson earns his first career Athlete of the Week award as he defeated two ranked opponents and helped the No. 5 Fighting Illini to wins over No. 9 Duke and No. 34 Texas last week.  The freshman gave the team its first singles point behind a dominating 6-3, 6-1 win over No. 106 Stephen Amritraj of Duke.  The Blue Devil knotted the match at 3-3 in the first set, but Anderson won nine of the last 10 games to finish off Amritraj.  After joining the team this winter break, Anderson has not lost a match for the Orange and Blue going a perfect 6-0.  Anderson dropped the first set of his career in the second set against No. 53 Rober Gubser of Texas the following night, before going on to win the match 7-5, 6-7 (6), (10-3).

Anderson is the first Illini player to earn Athlete of the Week since Michael Calkins on April 14, 2004.
