Gonzales, ranked 59th in the country, claimed back-to-back singles victories against Ryan Young of Clemson and Christopher Clayton of Harvard at No. 4 singles for the Illini on Saturday. The sophomore has won three straight singles matches, improving his singles record to 4-2 on the season. After powering through his morning match against Young in straight sets (6-1,6-4), Gonzales battled through a tight contest with Clayton, winning 7-5, 7-6(3) to stay perfect on the day.

In doubles, Gonzales teammed with Ryler DeHeart to win both matches at No. 1. The duo has gone undefeated in the dual season, notching six straight victories with an 8-5 win over Harvard's Brandon Chiu and Scott Deneberg and an 8-3 win against Clemson's Jay Jenkins and Young.

This marks Gonzales' first career Big Ten Athlete of the Week honor, while the Illini claim the award for the second straight week after G.D. Jones won February 8.
