Jeremy Sonkin, Wisconsin
SO, Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South

Sonkin fought off five straight match points against Northwestern's Christian Tempke in the final match of singles play to secure Wisconsin's 4-3 upset of the No. 51 Wildcats on Saturday in the first conference match of the season. The victory marked Wisconsin's first against the Wildcats since 1991.

After losing the first set, Sonkin found himself facing a 5-0 deficit in the second. A sophomore for the Badgers, Sonkin saved five consecutive Tempke match points before battling back to win 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 in No. 1 singles. Sonkin's second-set comeback, which marked his fifth singles win of the season, clinched the league win for the Badgers. In doubles action, Sonkin teamed with Lachezar Kasarov. The duo
earned its first win in the No. 2 doubles slot this season with an 8-4 triumph against Tempke and Lock and improved to 4-3 overall.

This is Sonkin's first career Athlete of the Week selection and marks the first time a Badger has received the weekly honor since Danny Westerman won the award April 11, 2001.
